Lookout seeks blanket donations

Blankets, sleeping bags, heavy winter coats, hats, wool socks and shoes are in high demand by those living on New Westminster and Burnaby streets.
As a result, the Lookout Emergency Aid Society is urgently requesting donations of these essential items to help the shelterless survive the next cold months.
Specifically, Lookout needs clean blankets and sleeping bags, warm winter clothing including jackets, hoodies, sweatpants, gloves, tuques, scarves, hats, new under garments and gently used socks, boots and running shoes.
All items are then distributed free-of-charge to homeless men and women.
Donations can be dropped off at Cliff Block Housing (606 Clarkson St., New Westminster) from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Lookout, which operates 177 year-round shelter beds, meals and services, says there are many more homeless individuals who aren’t getting help and are turned away by full shelters.
Because of the lack of shelter beds, those individuals need warm clean winter clothing, sleeping bags, blankets and other supplies to help them deal with the high health risk they face on the streets.
