A 55-year-old New Westminster woman was robbed after leaving a downtown Vancouver casino.
The woman was walking to her car around 3:40 a.m. Wednesday after leaving the Edgewater Casino. As she walked to her car she felt her purse being grabbed by someone behind her.
In the struggle the male suspect managed to rip the purse from her grasp and ran out of the casino’s parkade.
Both a nearby security guard and a man leaving the casino heard the screams and saw the suspect running away with the purse. The security guard gave chase on foot while the other witness got into his car and followed the suspect.
Police arrived in the area to see the suspect being chased and took him into custody at the intersection of Beatty and Smithe streets.
The woman’s purse and all the contents were recovered. She was taken to hospital with possible broken fingers.
Police have charged the 23-year-old suspect of no fixed address with one count of robbery.
