Do you want a park on the waterfront?
The City of New Westminster wants to know what you think of the idea.
It's holding a public meeting later this month to gather opinions on the future of the Westminster Pier, the possible location for the park.
The meeting is Wednesday, Aug. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m.at city hall. The public can offer its opinions on the park proposal.
If a park were to be built on the pier lands, located at 224 Front St., it would require an amendment to the official community plan. Located between Sixth and Elliott streets on the waterfront, the 3.2 hectare site is currently zoned for high rises and was formerly industrial land.
New Westminster bought the land in March from an investment firm for $8 million.
The cost of converting the land to a riverside park is estimated at $27 million and the city is looking at senior levels of government to finance two-thirds of that.
Those who can not attend the public meeting, held in the foyer of city hall, can still have a say through written submissions sent to the Development Services Department, Planning Division (511 Royal Ave., New Westminster, V3L 1H9) or fax it to 604-527-4511.
