New Westminster police have arrested a teen they believe responsible for a sexual assault at a Quayside apartment building July 4.

A 14-year-old Surrey teen was arrest early Wednesday (Aug. 5) when a 20-year-old woman was attacked by a youth in the 800 block of Queens Avenue. The teen allegedly tried to drag the woman towards some bushes near the tennis courts adjacent to John Robson Elementary. The woman broke free, and the teen fled after she fought him off. Police responded and soon took the suspect into custody.

Based on the evidence, police investigators now believe the male is responsible for both attacks

In the July 4 incident, an unknown male suspect followed a teenaged woman into her elevator and held her in the elevator while he sexually assaulted her through her clothes. The male fled the scene and was not located. An extensive media release was conducted at time that generated a number of tips.

The teen is slated to appear in New Westminster Provincial Court Thursday (Aug. 6), facing a number of charges being recommended by police including sexual assault, forcible confinement and break and enter.
