ELECTION 2008: NDP sweeps Royal City

NDP incumbent Dawn Black has been re-elected to a second consecutive term in the riding of New Westminster-Coquitlam, edging Conservative candidate Yonah Martin in a race that was at times within just a few per cent.
Fellow New Democrat incumbent Peter Julian easily won his riding of Burnaby-New Westminster earlier in the evening.
With 125 of 214 polls reporting, Black was named elected. Liberal candidate was a distant third at the time, with only about 11 per cent of the vote.
Black was elected in 2006, but also served as a New Democrat MP for the riding of New Westminster-Burnaby from 1988 to 1993.

Dawn Black (NDP) — 19,427 (38.3%)
Paul Forseth (Con) — 16,494 (32.5%)
Joyce Murray (Lib) — 11,931 (23.5%)
Sven Biggs (Green) — 1,174 (2.3%)
