Age of stupid showing in New West Oct. 22

The Age of Stupid, a critically acclaimed film, will be shown by the New Westminster Environmental Partners next Thursday. The docu-drama, about a man living in a post-environmental apocalypse in 2055, will show at Douglas College’s New Westminster Campus (700 Royal Ave.), in room 1614 starting at 7:30 p.m. The film premiered at this month’s Vancouver International Film Festival and stars Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite as an old man living in the devastated world of 2055. As he watches footage from 2008 he asks why mankind didn’t stop climate change while it had the chance?

“We felt it was important to get this important film out to as many members of the public as possible during the lead up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, that’s why we’re hosting this screening for those who couldn’t make it to the VIFF,” said NWEP director Matthew Laird.

“The Copenhagen conference is a pivotal moment in our history.”

The film premiered Sept. 21 in more than 50 countries to world leaders, celebrities and prominent environmentalists, in what has been described as the biggest and greenest live film event ever. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door and can be purchased through the NWEP website at www.nwep.ca. Pre-purchase is encouraged as seating is limited.
