Massey Theatre celebrates its 60th anniversary with a gala that will take the audience onstage, Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m.
The evening features performances by Dance With Me Studios of six dances from six decades. Food and beverages will be served as the stage is turned into a dance hall with a close up view of the show.

While the official opening date was Dec. 16, 1949, that date will be marked by the opening night of Massey Theatre’s Winter Spectacular.

Which teen rock band rocks best?
It seems it’s a good time to be at teen rock band in Metro Vancouver where aspiring young rock stars currently have two contests they can enter.
CBC Radio One’s On The Coast is searching for the best high school rock band in Metro Vancouver.
Students can enter by submitting an original song from rock bands made up of students in grades 9 to 12. The bands have until Nov. 6 to send CBC a recording of their best song, along with a photo and bio. The top three bands will be announced on Nov. 23 and perform live on air Friday, Nov. 27 at the CBC Vancouver Broadcast Centre.
The winning band gets an all-day recording session with Juno-nominated CBC music producer, Jon Siddall (Holly Cole, Oasis, The Killers and K-OS), and receive a radio-ready copy of their single, which will be featured on CBC Radio 3.

Meanwhile, Youthink Magazine and Tom Lee Music is looking for B.C.’s best teen band.
Until Dec. 15, high-school bands across B.C. can submit a YouTube video of themselves performing an original song. Several months of judging and shortlists will culminate on May 1, 2010 in a finale where the top three bands will compete live at Tom Lee Music Hall in downtown Vancouver.
The top prize includes gift certificates to Tom Lee Music, recording of one single, a songwriting session with Shaun Verreault of Wide Mouth Mason, a band photo shoot and marketing consultation.

Two locals in Faerie Queene
Two Burnaby performers are among those who will perform in the Young People’s Opera Society of B.C.’s production of The Faerie Queene at the Surrey Arts Centre Oct. 20-24. Adapted from William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the semi-opera features regal royalty, bumbling buffoons and fanciful fairies.
The cast includes two Burnaby performers, Julia Fox as Second Fairy and Stephen Rusch as Bottom.
