Remembrance Day ceremony schedule

New Westminster’s 2009 Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held Wednesday at the Royal Westminster Regiment Armoury. Participants should assemble in the Armoury at 9:30 a.m. for the memorial service which begins at 10 a.m. Doors to the Armoury are closed at 9:45 a.m.

The memorial address will be delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Doug Poitras, Commanding Officer, The Royal Westminster Regiment.

Overflow seating will be provided at Queens Avenue United Church. The church opens at 8:30 a.m. and the public will be able to watch and listen to the ceremonies taking place in the Armoury.

Following the ceremonies, there will be a parade to the Cenotaph at the front of city hall. At the Cenotaph, the two minutes of silence will be observed at 11:00 am. There will also be a 21-gun salute fired at one minute intervals commencing at 11:00 am.

All four lanes of Royal Avenue between Fourth Street and Sixth Street will be closed briefly for portions of the ceremony. This will be followed by the wreath laying ceremony and the march past on Royal Avenue.
