The Fraser River Discovery Centre re-opened earlier this year after extensive renovation and expansion. Located on the New West waterfront, it's an interpretive centre connecting communities in discovery and celebration of the living Fraser River. This month they opened there gift shop, called the Discovery Shop.

Q: What will I find in the store?

A: The Discovery Shop sells artwork by local artists and offers a number of original works in mixed media including watercolour, acrylics, stained glass, pottery and jewellery. Customers will also find a variety of books, greeting cards, educational toys and a selection of local gourmet food items.

Q: How will the shop complement the exhibits and activities in the FRDC?

A: The inventory for the Discovery Shop is carefully selected to complement the centre’s themes and current exhibits. The themes of current exhibits are reflected in the products. We favour products that reflect consideration for the environment and sustainable living. We selected local artists from the Fraser River basin and are working with local suppliers as well. As our operations develop we will expand our inventory to reflect the entire length of the river.

Q: Where does the money raised in the shop go to?

A: All proceeds from the Discovery Shop go directly to support education through programs and exhibits. As a non-profit organization, it is crucial for the Fraser River Discovery Centre Society to develop self-generated revenues. Proceeds from the Discovery Shop will complement other sources of revenues such as grants, donations and sponsorships. We hope people keep that in mind when shopping at the Discovery Shop. Not only will they find a great selection from a variety of quality items, art and jewellery, but they also help support a worthwhile cause.

A: The Discovery Shop and the Fraser River Discovery Centre are open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Fraser River Discovery Centre is located at 788 Quayside Dr., New Westminster. Everyone is welcome to visit the shop. Admission rates apply for the exhibit galleries.
