The Burnaby Express got their first win of the pre-season by defeating the Powell River Kings 5-2 in Gibsons on Thursday evening. The B.C. Hockey League team was to wrap up its exhibition schedule by playing the SFU men’s team Friday.

The Express will open the regular season by playing the Cowichan Valley Capitals in Duncan next Friday. After playing the Surrey Eagles at South Surrey Arena on Sept. 18, they Burnaby will have its home opener at Bill Copeland Arena against Powell River on Saturday, Sept. 19.
