Carbon guru’s emissions tested

Re: Unpacking the carbon tax (Column, NewsLeader, July 12).

The premier’s carbon tax guru, Mark Jaccard, is quoted by Tom Fletcher as saying the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation (CTF) slams the carbon tax without mentioning offsetting income tax cuts. This is untrue.

The CTF has mentioned income tax cuts many times. However, “revenue neutral” for government does not mean “revenue neutral” for households. The carbon tax will not be revenue neutral for families with children, families living in the north, and families that have to drive to work, school, and after school activities. They will pay more to heat their homes and drive than they will get in tax cuts. After all, is Premier Campbell expecting families to move to apartment buildings and soccer moms to walk?
