Let's all be Good Samaritans

Re: It’s time to step up for the homeless (Column, NewsLeader, Oct. 15)
Although Gary Begin’s column on homelessness seems like comments from a concerned citizen, mentioning the story of the Good Samaritan, I think he has missed the point.
The Good Samaritan story is a reminder to us all, including Gary, that we should be helping those in need in our communities.
Why didn’t he offer to help the man that he observed sleeping on a park bench wrapped in a sleeping bag?
Gary says the city should do more and then washes his hands of the problem as a citizen. If we are to conquer the homeless problem in our city, each of us must step out of our comfort zone and help real people in need, not argue about who should help. The challenge he puts forward sounds good—“Let us all be a Good Samaritan!”
That means offer your money, your home and your love for someone in need.
Can Gary really tell us that he plans on accepting his own challenge?
