First Lutheran Church is hosting a benefit concert for the family of Burnaby’s Mikhail Lennikov, the former translator for the KGB who has been in sanctuary at the church since June to avoid deportation.

The event is Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. at the church, located at 5745 Wales St. in Vancouver and features the music of ABBA tribute artists ABBA Cadabra and a “piano man” tribute to Elton John.

Tickets are $40 in advance (604-583-5969 or errolp@shaw.ca) and $50 at the door, with proceeds to assist Lennikov’s wife Irina, and son Dmitri, as they cope with the loss of income from Mikhail.
