The flat red coloured van that police investigators were seeking has been located in Surrey.
Earlier this week, the Econoline van believed connected to the July 2 death of 60-year-old Alberto Morgadinho was located and seized at a Surrey home, according to Corp. Dale Carr of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) in a press release.
The van’s colour had been altered, which caused a delay in releasing the news, Carr said.
“We had to ensure that it was the van. After it had been altered ... we just wanted to be abundantly clear that that was the vehicle.”
Police located the van after it was pointed out by a member of the public.
“We have no clear suspects in this file at this particular time, nor have we arrested anybody.
“We have spoken to the registered owner [of the van],” said Carr.
“No, it does not appear as though it was stolen.”
Police are applying for a warrant to conduct an extensive forensic examination which is expected to take place this weekend.
On Thursday, July 2, Morgadinho and the driver of the van were involved in an altercation that began at his business, Berto Contractors Ltd., in the 7500-block of Meadow Avenue in South Burnaby’s Big Bend area.
Media reports say the person in the van was trying to steal metal. Morgadinho reportedly chased after the van and died from his injuries on the roadway outside his property.
