Trash pilot project at Swangard Stadium
Updated: July 08, 2009 3:39 PM
Burnaby’s Swangard Stadium is the site of a pilot project to reduce trash by 95 per cent on Vancouver Whitecaps game days.
Previously, about 446 kilograms of garbage was taken to the landfill after each game, with only 10 per cent of total waste diverted.
The program will ensure concession stands use recyclable or compostable containers and encourage fans to separate their waste.
Lessons learned will be shared with the 22 Metro Vancouver municipalities for use in arenas and sports facilities.
