Burnaby city council approves 2.5 per cent pay raise

Council has approved a 2.51 per cent pay increase for itself. Using a formula developed in 2007 based on the consumer price index, average weekly wage increase in B.C. and the 2008 CUPE Local 23 increase, Mayor Derek Corrigan’s salary will increase from $95,029 in 2008 to $97,414 in 2009. Councillor salaries will go from $42,237 to $43,298.

According to director of finance Rick Earl, the raise will rank Corrigan’s salary sixth in the Lower Mainland even though the city’s population is second behind Vancouver while the councillors rank fifth.
