Caity Babcock is still cheery despite the bad news that arrived Monday.

“So I did not make top 8,” she says. “But I never thought I’d make it this far.”

The Burnaby teen beat out 4,000 others for a Top 16 spot on MuchMusic’s VJ Search 2.0 competition earlier this month.

She was tasked with raising a fanbase and luring people to her website at vj.muchmusic.com/caity in just a few weeks.

Finalists who made it to the next round were judged on how they grew their fanbase, and how many people followed them on Twitter, “friended” them on Facebook, and subscribed to them on YouTube.

Caity managed to amass 1,462 fans—a lot, but not enough to push her into the next round.

“The only reason I made it was because of the support from friends and family,” she says.

Friends helped her film a video, even starred in a few and drove traffic to her webpage.

A self-confessed people person, Caity is currently studying hairdressing at John Casablancas Institute of Applied Arts.

She says she wanted to try her hand at veejaying since she’s always been curious at heart.

“Ever since I was little, I always asked questions. I’ve always been interested in people and getting to know them better,” she says.

Not making the next round of the VJ Search hasn’t sunk her hopes of television fame.

“I won’t audition for MuchMusic again because who knows when they will be looking for another new VJ,” says Caity.

“I’m not going to wait around, I’m going to get out there and do something with this experience.”
