With less than two weeks to go before the Aug. 29 race day, it’s time for islanders to get out their water bottles and running shoes and hit the trails to train for the 2009 Run for the Ferry.
As usual Run for the Ferry features 5- and 10-km races but this year there will also be a 1.5-km kids fun run for those under 12 and their parents.
The kids will be given a special finishers medal and their run will kick off Bowfest celebrations at 9 a.m. The other races start at 9:37.
Also new this year: a Dash for Cash category that gives non-profit clubs the opportunity to raise $500 for their organization. This unique category will not be determined by finishing speed but by a draw prize.
Individual entry fees for the race are $25, and a team of four that registers two weeks in advance will pay the early bird team rate of $80.
Run for the Ferry is a fundraiser for the non-profit Bowen Community Housing Association and Bowen Island Rock Runners. More information on the run and on the draw prize for clubs and non-profit groups can be found at runfortheferry.ca.
