Slow down for deer crossing

I’d like to remind everyone that this is the time of year the mother deer are out with their new fawns who haven’t yet learned about cars and roads.

Baby deer at the side of the road can easily panic and run into the road instead into the bush, as I unfortunately found out last Friday night while driving by the Mitts’ place mid-island.

A wise saying I have heard is that where there is one deer, there are likely to be several. The young does typically have one baby but the more mature ones have twins – so if you see one fawn, there could easily be a sibling nearby as well as the mother.

Strawberry tea a huge success

On behalf of all of us at The Little Red Church I would like to say thank you Bowen Island!

Our Strawberry Tea was in July this year and we wondered: “If we host it, will they come?” And happily the answer was yes!

The weather on Saturday was hot, and on Sunday windy, but still, the strawberries and cream were enjoyed under the historic apple tree by dozens of relaxed Bowenians.

The volunteer hours for this size of event are enormous, as you can well imagine.

The mastermind behind it all was Penny Wright, and she was just brilliant!

Each area had separate teams of volunteers who worked before the weekend, during and afterwards to offer the whole family a great time.

We are immensely grateful for the energy and organization!

The folks who went home with treasures from the bake table, from the silent auction and from the fish pond will have tangible reminders of this year’s Strawberry Tea.

We hold dear the memories and the images of our island friends gathering for this Annual Rite of midsummer. And again, our thanks to all

‘Don’t these parents teach their children values and morals anymore?

Re: No headway in the search for Jodi Henrickson on bowenislandundercurrent.com

I am saddened and shocked that the parents of these teens don’t step up and talk to their kids.

Don’t these teens know that by keeping silent it’s a crime? I would hope and wish that these teens put themselves in the same position.

How would their parents feel if they went missing and nobody would speak about it? I lived in Squamish when the Bob McIntosh murder happened and was so disgusted by it.

If I were the parent of any these teens I’d have my child talking so fast regardless of how scared they were.

Don’t these parents teach their children values and morals anymore?
