Ferries boss takes home seven figures

BC Ferries CEO David Hahn was paid more than $1 million last year, while four other top executives collected between $485,000 and $562,000.
The payments include salary – nearly $495,000 for Hahn – plus pension contributions and performance-linked bonuses.
Executive and board pay levels at BC Ferries and TransLink are being targeted under a review ordered by the province to find cost savings.
“Do we need a million-dollar person to run BC Ferries when the ferry fares are going up and people believe their services are being cut?” asked NDP transportation critic Harry Bains.
He said the province must take the blame for setting up stand-alone authorities to run both the ferry and transit systems that are less accountable than before.
“The priorities of the taxpayer are secondary in both of these operations,” Bains said, adding the province should put locally elected representatives back in charge of TransLink.
