It’s been more than a month since 17-year-old Squamish resident Jodi Henrickson went missing on Bowen Island, but police continue efforts to find her, says RCMP Cpl. Dave Ritchie.
Despite the time elapsed, Ritchie says he remains hopeful.
“We don’t get discouraged,” he told The Undercurrent on Tuesday. “We just keep on plugging away, plugging away until, hopefully, we find Jodi.”
Two weeks after Henrickson’s disappearance and searchers for Henrickson combed through Bowen backyards, Island rumours spread that Henrickson’s body was found in a boat.
Local RCMP Cpl. Don Southern issued denials on the rumours.
The rumours were “sourced” by investigators, Ritchie said adding they’re not helpful to the investigation.
Ritchie would not elaborate on where the rumours came from, nor on whether discovering the source contributed to the investigation.
When asked if the force was monitoring anyone connected to the parties Henrickson attended before the last reported sighting of her, Ritchie would only say police were still “...just naming Jodi in the file.”
There were other names in the file, but the case is still being treated as a missing persons file, he said, adding the primary focus continues to be on finding the missing teen.
Some of Henrickson’s family members, including brother Rob and cousin Crystal, were forced to disabling the comments section of a Facebook site dedicated to finding Jodi.
The site said that some rumours people posted were “very much in poor taste.”
The site also told visitors that the “...RCMP will contact immediate family about Jodi before anyone else, so if you don’t hear it from immediate family, it is false.”
The website marked the month anniversary of their loved one’s disappearance with a statement that the family “...remains hopeful that Jodi will be found: encouraging only positive thoughts.”
The site went on to thank people for their help and finished by saying they would “see this to a positive outcome.”
