Steamship-era uniforms to be worn at Historian’s Appraisal & High Tea

When Dan Parkin purchased the Old Dorm in the late 1980s the attic yielded many treasures from the Union Steamship Company’s resort era. Amongst old company records and an invoice machine were several laundry bags stuffed with uniforms. The faded dresses and busing jackets were from the dining room of the Bowen Inn – the resort hotel formerly located across the street.
Thanks to the Cottage Laundry these wonderful old uniforms from the Union Steamship Company resort days are being washed, starched and pressed. They will be worn and on display at the much anticipated Antiques Appraisal & High Tea at Evergreen Hall, 464 Melmore Road, Deep Bay, Saturday, 18th July 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Be forewarned – tickets are going quickly.
Call the Museum and Archives at 604-947-2655 to book your appraisal appointment with Uno and Jeanette Langmann and your table for tea – a choice of either a refresher tea – tea, scones, cream and preserves, or a full high tea, with added fancy sandwiches, cakes and Notte’s Bon Ton French pastries.
A shuttle service will commence at 11 a.m. from BICS parking lot to Evergreen Hall.
The Historians would greatly appreciate the loan of any china teacups, teapots, plates, etc. for this worthwhile community fundraiser.
