Ten years ago in the Bowen Island Undercurrent: Ed Sanders gave the background of The Oven Door bakery, one of lower Snug Cove’s most popular eateries . Charming Sue Fenwick had dreamed of owning such a business for several years before purchasing the business from owners Ida and Len Lum in 1994. By 1998 she had a permanent staff of five along with three part-time employees. Plans for expansion were underway.

One of the many reasons for stopping off at The Oven Door was its role as pickup or dropoff point. Bowen Freight and Phoenix Photo had drop-off boxes and islanders left various things for one another including airline tickets and, peculiarly, a rock.

In another article by Sanders, islander Peter Boddy’s role as a neanderthal in the 1968 Stanley Kubrick masterpiece 2001: A Space Odyssey is remembered.

Featured ads: the official opening of the Ruddy Potato Whole Foods Market; Don’t be in the Doghouse (remember Mom on Mother’s Day), Black Dog Books; a three-bedroom home on 1.33 acres in Millers landing (great views to south and east) was listed at $289,000.
