About Us
Situated at the mouth of beautiful Howe Sound, Bowen Island is an island municipality of 4,000 full-time residents. Another 1,500 holiday homeowners settle in for summer and tourists flock to the beaches, bistros and boat docks. In earlier days, most enterprise surrounded the activities of vacationers who came to Bowen to dance, swim and stay in quaint cottages. Now the island has a vast array of charming B & Bs to accommodate the varying tastes and budgets of visitors.
The island is the fourth highest artist-populated small community in Canada, so galleries and studios abound. As well, music, literary and theatre events attract a steady clientele devoted to supporting a vibrant, creative arts scene. Catching up by reading the Undercurrent is part of islanders' weekly routine.
Many groups contribute information regularly and the letters to the editor are always an intriguing read. The Undercurrent is widely available on the ferry, at many retail establishments and at several off-island locations.
