Rapid response for Spartan swimmers

Chilliwack’s Spartan Swim Club attended the Richmond Rapids Fastswim Classic meet from Dec. 4-6.

The meet was attended by many of B.C.’s top age-group athletes and ran as a heats-and-finals format.

In the 12-and-under boys division the Spartans had Carson Olafson fighting his way to fourth place in the 200 metre backstroke, sixth in the 50 and 100m backstrokes, 50m fly and 200m freestyle. He added an eighth in the 100m fly.

The 14-year-old boys category had David Lavin splashing to second in the 50 and 100m backstrokes. He placed third in the 200m backstroke and 50m fly, fourth in the 200m individual medley and fifth in the 100m fly.

Among 15-year-old boys, Jordan Torok pounded his way to first in the 400 and 1500m freestyles.

He placed second in the 200m fly, third in the 50 and 100m backstrokes and 200m freestyle and fourth in the 100m fly.

In the 16-and-over boys division, Alex Schopf placed sixth in the 100m fly.

On the girls side, Shannon Key (16-and-over) placed first in the 400 and 800m freestyles, fourth in the 200m individual medley, seventh in the 200m freestyle and eighth in the 100m freestyle.

Nicole Mulligan finished sixth in both the 400 and 800m freestyles and eighth in the 400m individual medley.

Alana See raced to seventh in the 200m fly and 400m freestyle and eighth in the 800m freestyle.

Danielle Sundberg pushed her way to seventh in the 50m backstroke and eighth in the 100m fly and 50m freestyle.

Sarah Woodske battled her way to a fifth place finish in the 800m freestyle.
