Chilliwack’s midget football Giants are one game away from an unbeaten regular season after shutting out the Mission Niners 34-0 last weekend.
At 9-0, the Giants have only to beat Meadow Ridge tomorrow to attain perfection.
Against Mission, the offence moved efficiently up and down the field, augmenting a lethal passing attack with a dominant ground game.
Running back Josh Hayden rushed for a touchdown as did fullback Shane Grosvener. Quarterback Cody Parray threw for three majors, hooking up once with Dylan Boykowich and twice with Brendan Scott.
On defense, Usman Ahmad had two fumble recoveries, Arie Nakagawa added several key tackles and Gauge Levesque got his first interception of the season.
The Mission Niners fumbled the ball on almost every punt return, gifting Chilliwack with stellar field position.
– The bantam Giants (4-3) jumped out to a 21-6 halftime lead against the Langley Bears, and cruised to a 49-12 homefield win.
Runningback Steven Porcina scored all three Giant TDs in the opening half with Nick Westad, Klay Larocque and Alex Coupal (two) adding majors in the second half.
Coupal nabbed his second touchdown on a punt return, sweeping outside on a 60 yard runback.
Chilliwack’s defensive line of Carson Allinot, Josh Wood, Dustin Caravetta, Matty Boykowich and Jacob Samuelson was stellar, stuffing the inside run and forcing the Bears outside.
Halfback Jamal McLaren was excellent when Langley runners ventured outside the tackles.
– The junior bantam Blue Giants (6-3) bumped a three-game losing skid with a 42-6 win against the White Giants (2-7).
Connor Herrmann provided all of the offence, scoring all six touchdowns.
Offensive line coach Josh Greggian was pleased with the performance of his unit as it cleared the way for a dominant running game.
Quarterback Hunter Larocque was four of five in passing attempts, including a 30-yard touchdown strike to Herrmann early in the first half.
Treyvon Walsh hauled in three passes for the Giants, and was equally impressive making key tackles on defense. The McCracken brothers, Logan and Duncan were instrumental in shutting down the White Giants running attack.
Zach Toews, Nathan Blanchard and Malcolm Bobb-Wilson also stood out on D.
For the White Giants, Logan Krause and Corey Armstrong anchored the defense while Darius Commodore, Malik Irons and Filip Horak were offensive standouts.
– The first place peewee Blue Giants (8-1) tightened their grip on top spot with a 40-1 victory over the White Giants (3-6).
Running back Wyatt Uzick had a huge game for the Giants with 11 carries for 100 yards and four touchdowns. Branden Phillips had a great block that resulted in Uzick’s final major.
Jordon Breuker and Tyler Sprott also scored for the Blue Giants, who got outstanding blocking from offensive linemen Braydon Winger, Joseph Gallinger, Darwin Biamonte and Conor Mielke.
A.J. Sagrott led the Blue Giants defense with five tackles. Sam Meyer and Conner Moore played well, leading a unit that only allowed 36 yards in the entire game. Cameron Lamphart got the start at linebacker and assisted on several tackles.
– The atom Red Giants (4-5) have created a win-and-they’re-in scenario for the playoffs after downing North Langley 32-18 last weekend.
Brody Porter continued his dominance as he rolled for three touchdowns and over 200 yards rushing. Colin Campbell added a pair of touchdown runs. Kicker Dustin Wutzke added a convert.
The defense continues to get better, led by the tenacious tackling of Matt Stevenson, Jonas Wilson and this week’s standout, Justin Crooks.
If the Red Giants down Meadow Ridge this weekend, they qualify for the post-season.
— In an all-Chilliwack atom matchup, the Blue Giants (3-5-1) earned a 31-12 win over the White Giants (1-8).
Joshua Roos led the offence, hauling in several passes, including a 15-yard touchdown toss from quarterback Riley Egan.
Egan added a major of his own on a 74 yard scramble and Aaron Guliker had 25 and 48 yard touchdown runs.
Hayden Oraschuk added a spectacular defensive TD, stripping a White Giants player of the football and rumbling 75 yards in the other direction for the game’s final score.
