Chilliwack’s midget football Giants started strong but faded late, losing 28-24 to Kelowna.

It was the first loss of the season for Chilliwack, who remain in first place with a record of 5-1.

Playing both ways, Shane Grosvener blocked a punt for a touchdown, and made several outstanding plays.

John Dunning had an interception for a major, and quarterback Cody Parray threw a long touchdown pass to receiver Brendan Scott in the third quarter.

— The junior bantam Blue Giants (5-1) started Thanksgiving weekend in style, thumping the Meadow Ridge Gold Knights 57-6. Kirkland Kennedy opened the scoring with an early major, and Brett Westad, Connor Herrmann and Hunter Larocque added touchdown runs.

Lance Nemeth chipped in with three extra points. Defensively, Treyvon Walsh brought an interception back 45 yards for a touchdown.

The weekend ended on a down note on Monday with a 42-14 loss to the Abbotsford Falcons.

— The junior bantam White Giants (2-5) lost 42-18 to the Meadow Ridge Blue team on Monday. Offensively, Filip Horak recorded a pair on long touchdown runs, and Malik Irons recorded one major and more than 100 yards rushing.

Special mention goes to Keegan Zaporozan and Samantha Gauthier who stepped in and made very good plays.

Defenseively, Lane Levesque was a fierce open field tackler. Darius Commodore, David Lorteau and Thijs Duineveld also played well, and Josh Fitzsimmons was a standout on special teams, despite playing through illness.

— The peewee Blue Giants (5-1) split a pair Thanksgiving games, beating the Meadow Ridge Knights 44-6 and losing 43-34 to Abbotsford.

Tyler Sprott carried eight times for 160 yards and four touchdowns in the win, with Wyatt Uzick and Emerson Smith added majors.

Uzick (twice) and Smith both found the endzone against Abby, as did Cameron Lamphart.

Sam Meyer and Jordon Breuker led a Giants defense that gave up minus-48 yards to Meadow Ridge.

– The Atom Red Giants (1-4) dropped a hard-fought 24-8 decision to North Langley.

The final score may look one-sided, but North Langley got the bulk of their points on the opening kickoff and a last minute major.

The Red Giants offence moved the ball well, but struggled to finish drives.

Brody Porter and Matt Stevenson had outstanding days running the ball, and Gareth and Riley Connor were huge on defence.

– On the second play of the game, Nick Both ran a 40 yard streak up the field for a touchdown.

But that was the high point of the day as the peewee White Giants lost 32-6 to Meadow Ridge Blue.

— The atom Blue Giants got one touchdowns from Riley Egan and two from Aaron Guliker as they tied Meadow Ridge Gold 18-18.

Chilliwack led the game late, but Meadow Ridge came back to tie on a kickoff return for a major.
