Matt Strong is going a long way to keep his major junior hockey dream alive.

The ex-Chilliwack Bruin has landed a job with the Ontario Hockey League’s Brampton Battalion, the same junior team that supplied Cody Hodgson to the Vancouver Canucks.

The 19-year-old defenceman had to clear waivers in the Western Hockey League before tranferring to the OHL.

None of the 22 WHL teams showed any interest, paving the way for the six-foot-three and 212 pound blueliner to head east.

Strong was popular among his teammates and in the community after coming to Chilliwack from Red Deer during the 2007-08 season. But he played only 43 regular season games for the Bruins.

Strong tried out for the Vancouver Giants in September, but was displaced by the arrival of Czech prospect David Musil.
