Huskers roughed up by Raiders
Chilliwack’s fast-fading playoff hopes took another hit Saturday afternoon with a lop-sided loss to the Vancouver Island Raiders.
The Huskers made the lenthy journey to Nanaimo, and dropped a 54-14 decision at Caledonia Park.
It was the 24th consecutive home-field win for the defending Canadian champions, who sit atop the B.C. Football Conference standings with a record of 6-0.
The Huskers slipped to 2-4 and trail the Okanagan Sun (3-3) for the fourth and final playoff spot.
Chilliwack played feisty football early, but trailed 37-7 at the half. The Raiders cruised to victory from there.
They cut through the Huskers D for five rushing touchdowns, including a pair from Mike McMasters, who carried six times for 86 yards.
Brett Willsie had 11 carries for 95 yards and one major, with Jordan Botel and quarterback Marc Migneault also finding the endzone.
Migneault didn’t have to go to the air often, but when he did, his most reliable target was Robin Medeiros (four catches for 112 yards).
Clayton Kroeker started at quarterback for Chilliwack, and was picked off twice by Raiders defensive back Lavard Hayden.
Chilliwack returns to Exhibition Stadium on Sunday for a must-win game, hosting the Okanagan Sun at 2 p.m.
Chilliwack must come out on top to keep post-season dreams alive.
