Triple play for Mad Dawgs
The Chilliwack Mad Dawgs went to the squirt girls regional fastpitch tournament in Coquitlam the last weekend of June, competing in a field of 12 teams.
The Mad Dawgs went 4-3 overall, coming up short in their bid for the tourney title.
Chilliwack’s first game was a loss to Ridge Meadows, but they bounced back with wins over Coquitlam, North Langley and Port Moody.
In game one of the double-knockout playoff, the locals knocked off Cloverdale in a seven inning classic.
Game two saw Ridge Meadows beat them for a second time, relegating them to a consolation match against White Rock/South Surrey. Chilliwack lost by two runs. Jaimee Fournier went the distance on the mound, backed by an amazing triple play.
With opposing runners on first and third with none out, a fly ball to centre field was reeled in by Sam Alsip. Her throw to first hit a base-runner in the helmet and bounced into the waiting hands of Jilia Kilbrai.
She tagged first to double off the runner and relayed a throw through Fournier to third base to complete the rarest of plays.
