A 4-0 victory over the Terrace Kermodes lifted Chilliwack’s U-13 Silver Strikers to seventh place at the B Soccer Provincials, held July 2-5 in Vancouver.

The lone Chilliwack Football Club side still kicking at this point in the season, the Strikers started off the tourney last Thursday with a 1-0 loss to North Coquitlam.

The winning goal came off a penalty kick from the top of the 18-yard box, awarded after a dubious tripping call.

Friday morning saw the Strikers in action against the Kootenay Rovers.

The locals fell behind 2-0 at the half before battling back on a goal by Megan Kelley, who roofed a shot from six yards out to cut the deficit in half. The Strikers kept coming, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

Game three pitted Chilliwack against Comox.

Kelley scored the lone Striker goal, cashing in on a dash into the goal box.

Her team held the lead until just 30 seconds remained. At that point, Comox took advantage of a missed tackle, slotting a shot into the top corner to make the final 1-1.

Finishing fourth in their group left Chilliwack to battle Terrace in a consolation final.

The Strikers scored twice in the first half, and twice more in the second, with four different players doing the damage.

Kelly scored her third of the tournament, with Nikki Loewen, Kiana Thiessen and Emma Jessop also finding the back of the net.

Other members of the team were Jodi Brown, Samantha Chand, Rhiannon Dunphy, Jade Emond, Haley Henderson, Tanisha Jack, Brett Karcioglu, Vanessa Meeres, Haley Mianse, Kristy Ricard, Breanna Ruschke and Sydney Steeves.

Coaches were Darshan Chand and Jamie Steeves.
