Thanksgiving gives us a chance to think of a better world

In our building, and down the hall a little ole lady lives alone. We hardly see our neighbor. One day our Mother suggested we do something for her for Thanksgiving. We got an idea. We went outside and gathered a bunch of colored leaves then made a wreathe. We went with our Mother, took it to the lady and said “here, something for your home.” She smiled and taped the wreathe to her door. As we were Leaving we saw her tears and Mom asked her if she would like to come for Thanksgiving dinner? She smiled and said she would love to.

In our grocery store, where we bought our turkey, the line up was slow and friendly. We did not feel like we were in the Indy raceway and the clerk talked to us as if we had some time for a change.

At our school there’s a boy who is very athletic. He is good in all the sports. His family doesn’t come and support him but he is thankful because his neighbor down the street does and this gives him lots of encouragement.

In our school we also have some kids who don’t have much so the other mothers decided to have a big Thanksgiving hamper for the families and no one knows where they came from.

Our Mother tells us to be very careful when we ride our bikes because the cars zoom around endlessly- but aren’t you thankful that many of the drivers don’t and show an example to the other drivers and children.

Some people I know say Thanksgiving is just commercial, but I am sure you like I don’t agree. It’s a time where we can make some changes and decide that over a good dinner, despite the pain in this world, there is much happiness to create-even if it is just the person that says you.

I, you them us, we can all do one thing to bring a colorful leaf to the wreath of neighborly care and in doing so, obliterate the attitude of commercialism while ignoring the beauty of timeless change through daily effort. Happy Thanksgiving
