Re: Leo VanLeeuwen is retiring from Fortin’s after 44 years working at the hardware store. (Chilliwack Progress, Sept. 29.)
I have mixed emotions about Leo leaving Fortins cause I have had an account with Fortins since 1968 so Leo and I have a long relationship and Leo has come up with many solutions for my parts needs for the many different trucks machines and cars I have worked on over the last 40 plus years.
I am happy for Leo that he can retire, but on the other hand I am sad he is leaving because Leo was always a resourceful parts man and over the years he found parts for me that some parts book stated were not available or would not fit.
Leo, in these changing times, understood and has a lot of knowledge that is not in the new parts books and could fine parts for older machines and vehicles that some said were not available. Thankfully Fortins still have Doug and Frank, and now Barry has got some years on him, that have the old time years of experience. These parts-men keep the Fortins tradition going of keeping Chilliwack machines, trucks and cars operational along with the younger parts personal who have a great interest in the latest vehicles.
I am going to miss you, Leo VanLeeuwen
