Congratulations to Nicola Davies, director of “Pieces of Eight,” for two wonderful benefit concerts for Children’s Hospital Sunday at UFV theatre.

Congratulations also to the other members of the group: Katrina Barson, Caroline Davies, Jeff Dressler, Nabil Fadai, Shane Hanson, Nial Harrison-Morry and Sarah Paulding.

This concert only highlights the astounding wealth of youth arts talent in this community. And not all of the talented young people in Chilliwack and area were on the stage Sunday. Some were in the audience supporting their peers and others were busy rehearsing for the upcoming production of “Pride and Prejudice” at the Chilliwack Arts Centre, which starts next week. Still others were off singing or playing on other stages around the world, studying at UBC or other summer music venues or getting ready to go to university in the fall.

There is a perfect storm of youth talent in Chilliwack, which only makes it seem more fortunate that the new arts centre is nearing completion.

Congratulations must also go to the members of “Solfeggietto:” Katrina Barson, Caroline Davies (director), Anna Canaday, Lia Hagquist, Shane Hanson, Krista Skwarok, Kate Stuart and Will Hutchinson. These young performers also put on an excellent show Sunday. Guests Evanna Chiew and Lisa Hahn added to these special concerts.

I can’t wait to see what these and the other talented young people in Chilliwack will do next.
