A local man and woman were charged with five counts each of break and enter this week in connection with a series of residential and business B&Es in Chilliwack.

Justin James Purcell, 28, of Chilliwack is facing five charges of break and enter and was remanded until Dec. 1.

Angela Babette James, 28, of Chilliwack, is also facing five charges of break and enter and was released on bail, with her next appearance Nov. 24.

Police investigators used "an intelligence-lead approach" to successfully identify the pair of suspects, said Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop.

The charges were laid in connection with B&E incidents in October at Cheeki Cherry Shoe Store on Ontario Avenue, Evangeline's on Mill Street, as well as residences on Corbould Avenue. Items stolen ranged from shoes, and electronics to food and alcohol.

These types of incidents tend to be crimes of opportunity, which often occur in the early morning hours, she said.

"If you see any suspicious activity that may be related to either business or residential break and enters please call police right away," said Dunlop.

"We will attend and the information you provide may be key in helping to curb and solve property crime in our community."
