Police are looking for witnesses to an armed car-jacking incident late Monday night in the downtown Safeway parking lot.

A heavy-set suspect wearing a ball cap and jeans jumped into the victim's vehicle brandishing a weapon, and demanded cash, according to the police report.

"The suspect then told the victim to get out of the car and drove off with an undisclosed amount of money," said Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop.

RCMP say the crime was called into police soon after it happened at about 11:30 p.m. in the parking lot located in the 45800-block of Yale Road.

The stolen vehicle was found by police a short distance away, said Dunlop.

The suspect was described as about five-foot-eight, between 225 and 250 pounds, with blond hair and a goatee. He was wearing a baseball hat, a multi-coloured sweater with a design on it and jeans.

Police are looking for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to investigators. Anyone with information is asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS. Online tips at ww.chilliwackcrimestoppers.ca
