Chilliwack firefighters saved a home on Sherlaw Road from a chicken barn fire that broke out late Monday night.

The 6-metre by 13-metre wood-frame barn was fully involved when about 20 firefighters from three firehalls arrived at the property in the 48000-block Sherlaw Road at about 11:30 p.m.

There were no civilian or fightfighter injuries. Few chickens were believed lost in the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, but is not considered suspicious.

A heat lamp ocated inside the barn is one possible cause, Assistant Fire Chief Ian Josephson said Tuesday.

The metal cladding on the wood-frame barn probably helped keep flames from spreading to the nearby house, he said.
