A Chilliwack RCMP officer responding to a 9-1-1 call Thursday crashed into a utility pole on Yale Road.

The officer was not injured, but the police cruiser suffered extensive damage as was the utility pole.

The nature of the 9-1-1 call was not given in a press release, and police officials were not immediately available for comment.

The officer was responding to the 9-1-1 call at about 2:45 p.m. when he attempted to pass a vehicle that had pulled to the side of Yale Road.

"When the officer accelerated the police vehicle fish-tailed and went off the road ... backwards into a utility pole," Cpl. Lea-Anne Dunlop said in the release.

An investigation by the RCMP's municipal traffic section continues, and a number of witnesses have been interviewed.

Any witnesses who have not spoken to police are asked to call the Chilliwack RCMP detachment at 604-792-4611.
