Design-build teams shortlisted for school projects
Three design-build teams have been shortlisted by the Chilliwack school district to submit proposals for the undertaking of the Yarrow elementary and Rosedale K-9 school design-build projects.
Two of which have businesses that were involved in the successful design-build construction of G.W. Graham middle-secondary school.
The three teams selected include Dominion Fairmile Construction Ltd., Titan Construction Company Ltd., and Yellowridge Construction Ltd.
Aldergrove-based Titan Construction Company Ltd. was the contractor for G.W. Graham. KMBR Architects Planners Inc., which is on the Yellowridge Construction Ltd. team, was the architect for G.W. Graham.
"They have now split and gone in different directions, but both are on teams shortlisted for these projects," said Doug Hibbins, project director.
After posting a request for qualifications in June, the school district received responses from 10 teams.
Each team was evaluated on team composition and organization, experience of team members and construction team members, as well as an understanding and vision for the project.
"We had really strong teams respond, with companies that had a great deal of experience involved," said Hibbins. "All 10 could have done the project."
Based on the criteria set out by the school district, the shortlisted teams "offered the school district the most value," said Hibbins.
Each design-build team consists of a building contractor, architect, consulting engineers and major trades that propose to work together to design and construct the new schools.
Yarrow elementary will be replaced by a new school on the existing site, while Rosedale elementary and Rosedale middle will be consolidated into a new K-9 school on the current Rosedale middle school site.
The shortlisted teams must submit a comprehensive proposal by December.
The school district will then evaluate each of the proposals and select the one that offers the greatest value for the benefit of the students and the community, within the approved capital funding.
