Run For Mom earns more than $20,000 for CGH

The families and staff at Bernard elementary should give themselves a pat on the back today. They managed to raise $4,637 for the Envision Run for Mom. It’s the most any school has raised throughout the ten-year history of the run.

“We were so excited when we found out,” says education assistant Sandra Verschuur at Bernard. This is the third year in a row that Bernard has taken home the trophy, a point not lost on the students.

They’ve been in friendly competition with a handful of other schools, including Evans and Unsworth.

There were small teams from each of the schools at the run on Mother’s Day.

They participated mostly in the 5k run, Verschuur says. But some also did the 1k fun run.

In total, the run netted just under $21,000, which will be spent on items for mothers and infants at Chilliwack General Hospital.

Each year, a list of wants and needs pertaining to women and children at CGH are compiled and the money is used to fulfill those wishes. This year, the run’s proceeds will help to buy two pediatric infusion pumps, two breast feeding chairs and pediatric resuscitation bags.

Fundraising has always been a major force in the run, and participants receive prizes and initiatives depending on how much they raise.

Three individual fundraisers toppled the $1000 mark this year: Anne Russell, Lydia Bartel and Sandra Verschuur.
