A seasonal concert next Saturday night may be just the ticket.
The Chilliwack Metropolitan Orchestra is ready to present its first performance of the season under the direction of Maestro Johan Louwersheimer at the Chilliwack Alliance Church on Nov. 14.
Pianist Clinton Denoni of Hope will be performing the Piano Concert in A Minor by Grieg, and there will also be selected works by the Youth Orchestra under the batons of Trischa Buhler and David Voth.
The upcoming concert gives musical enthusiasts the opportunity to hear works by well-known romantic composers Edward Grieg and Felix Mendelssohn, says Metropolitan Orchestra member Derrick Rogers.
"At first glance there would seem to be little connection between the Norwegian composer Edward Grieg, and the sophisticated urban genius of Hamburg, Felix Mendelssohn, yet the connection is quite a strong one," said Rogers.
Grieg was taught piano by his mother from whom he learned many of Norway's beautiful folk songs. At the age of 15 he was sent for further musical training to the Leipzig Conservatory which had been recently reorganized by its new dean, Felix Mendelssohn, and there Grieg had an exposure to the central European musical influences for five years.
Mendelssohn's Reformation Symphony No. 5 is on the concert program, and should be a treat for classical music lovers.
"The symphony was originally written to commemorate the origin of the Reformation, and the first movement incorporates the three fold Dresden Amen theme which Wagner also used in the opera, Parsifal."
Mendelssohn was prolific, writing two piano concertos, five symphonies and multiple sonatas for organ and piano. The Mendelssohn " Reformation Symphony" to be played on NOvember 14th, under the baton of Maestro Louwersheimer , The symphony was originally written to commemorate the origin of the Reformation, and the first movement incorporates the three fold Dresden Amen theme which Wagner also used in the opera, Parsifal.
"We are indebted to Maestro Louwersheimer for his original choice of music for the program and the opportunity to hear Clinton Denoni, award winning concert pianist, who originates from Hope," said Rogers.
