These Kids Wear Crowns are ready for whatever comes at them this fall.
The band's first self-titled record comes out in style next Friday night, with a CD release party at Echo Room.
"We're super proud of it," said keyboards player Matt Vink, who also does the programming.
The sizzling single, We All Fall Down, is in daily rotation on the new rock station, The Hawk.
"They've got our track spinning a couple times a day," he said. The anthem-like tune can also be heard on their site www.thesekidswearcrowns.com, which links to their MySpace page.
The MySpace snippet describes them as "a powerful pop/dance quintet" and their energetic sound and catchy hooks back that up.
Four of the band members are Sardis secondary grads, including Vink, Alan Poettcker (bass, vocals), and Alex Johnson (lead vocals), who used to gig around town as Goodnight Medic.
"So when the three of us came together, we had these songs ready to go," Vink said.
This year the threesome recruited Josh Mitchinson (drums) of Abbotsford, and Joe Porter (guitar), the other SSS grad, to form the new band, These Kids Wear Crowns.
The boys of TKWC have been ratcheting up the effort factor ever since, starting with the shiny new EP, and a tour. They've got some momentum going.
"It's become more serious," Vink said.
"We're always working on becoming tighter, and boosting our efforts on our stage show."
The band recorded a six-track EP earlier this summer at The Sound Suite in Abbotsford, working with Steve Klassen.
"We've done a couple of versions of each song," Vink added.
We All Fall Down was written by Poettcker, with help from Johnson.
"Alan writes most of the demos in his home studio, and then we'll tweak what he's done," he said. "Alan writes a good chunk of the melodies and lyrics."
No sooner does the new EP get packaged and shipped out, and they're already thinking of putting out the next disc.
"We might be recording a full-length CD in 2010," Vink offered.
"We're looking forward to the coming year actually."
Watch for an all-ages gig on the south side that the band is planning for some time at the end of the month.
They'll follow that up with a bumping 20-date tour with shows booked at venues between Toronto and Vancouver starting in mid-October. They've signed with management in the U.S., and will be doing the entire fall concert tour together with Vancouver band A Trophy Life.
Vink said they're primed for touring the new disc, and will likely be heading back to the States next winter or spring.
"I'm happy that we made music that I can show to everyone from my grandparents, to my five-year-old cousin," he said. "I think people will be surprised when they see us at the Echo Room."
