Half Past Theatre presents the timeless love story, Pride and Prejudice, at the Chilliwack Arts Centre opening on July 18.
The new theatre troupe got its start with a production of Romeo and Juliet at Sardis secondary last spring, and this summer it's taking on Jane Austen's masterpiece.
"We chose Pride and Prejudice because it's a classic story that we thought would be challenging and exciting to portray on stage," says Josh Tompke, who is sharing the producer role with Caitlin Archer.
"Austen's time period is so full of societal and familial expectations that it nearly ruins everything the characters want to happen in their lives.
"Only when they abandon this, do they finally find happiness."
A cast of 18 will be bringing the play to life, starring Katherine Beswick as Elizabeth and Michael Temorcioglu as Mr. Darcy.
The play is directed by Gabriel Kirkley, and stage-managed by Nial Harrison-Morry.
"This will be a unique production that is sure to capture any audience's imagination and hearts with its timeless love story," Tompke adds.
Half Past Theatre incorporated as a non-profit society last fall.
"We also put on The Seagull in August 2008 and most recently A Midsummer Night's Dream in May 2009," he says.
Pride and Prejudice, July 18, 22, 23, 24 and 25 at 7 p.m. and Sunday July 19, and July 26 at 2 p.m. at the Chilliwack Arts Centre, $10, 604-316-6455.
