Owen Munro has a new jacket.
The jacket is a symbol, recognizing Munro as one of the top lacrosse players in his zone. He was awarded the jacket and a $500 scholarship when he was named the Pepsi Lacrosse Player of the Year.
Munro, who is on the midget A2 team, was surprised and happy to hear that he’d won. The award is given to the top graduating midget player.
“[Owen] always gives 100 per cent as a player, and inspires his teammates to do the same,” said his coach Scott Wortley. “He is deserving of this award for many reasons. He is impressive as an excellent lacrosse player, but also as a referee where he has devoted many hours for our club and always puts his best foot forward.”
Sixteen-year-old Munro has been playing lacrosse for 10 years.
“He took to it right away,” recalled his mom Cathy. “But this year he stood out.”
Munro and his Mission team competed in the provincials this past year and placed fifth.
He’s also on the basketball team at Mission Secondary School.
