On Saturday, Oct. 31, Mission secondary’s varsity football team beat the Pitt Meadows Vikings 7-6.

It was a defensive battle that saw the Marauders score the first touchdown of the game in the beginning of the first quarter, but they did not convert their extra point.

With the Roadrunners back on their heels, Matt Robertson made an interception and ran it 51 yards for a touchdown.

This changed the momentum of the game, giving the Roadrunner’s some jump. Mission then made their convert point making the score 7-6.

Blake Schaufelberger made some amazing blocks against Pitt Meadows, helping the Roadrunner offense stay on track. The remainder of the game was a great defensive battle.

The boys fought hard and scored another touchdown on a 60 yard run by Kyle Albertini-McKee in the third quarter; unfortunately it was disallowed due to a penalty.

Mission did not let that discourage them though, and they continued the fight until the final whistle, coming up with two defensive stops inside their 10 yard line in the final four minutes of the game.

The final score was 7-6 for Mission, which secured the Roadrunners one of the five playoff spots from their AA Mainland Conference.

Mission’s last scheduled season game will be held Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. on home turf against Rick Hansen.
