Mission Secondary School’s senior football team celebrated a 43-6 victory over Abby Collegiate last Saturday.
Assistant coach Ed Sward described the team’s play as being “very workmanlike,” and was extremely happy with the boys’ performance.
“Every player did what was needed of them,” he said. “We pulled together as a team and excelled in every facet of the game.”
Mission was outstanding on both offence and defence and Branden Edmondson had a breakout game scoring two touchdowns.
Other touchdowns were scored by Kyle Albertini, Tanner Pearce, Blake Shaufelberger and Matt Robertson.
Shaufelberger stood out on defence as well, with six tackles and an interception that was returned for 35 yards. Other defensive highlights include Miles Chartier’s interception which was returned for 53 yards, and he had three tackles. Colton Lohr had six tackles.
This victory marked the Roadrunners’ second league win of the season, giving them a 2-1 record.
Mission’s other win this season happened Oct. 2 against Langley.
The boys started the game with a lot of positive energy and took the game into their own hands. Shaufelberger scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter, after it was set up by Robertson with an 18-yard gain.
Robertson had a amazing offensive game with 101 rushing yards and five tackles on the defensive side. Albertini also had an outstanding game with two touchdowns and 127 rushing yards.
Schaufelberger added another touchdown and on the defensive front, Colton Jackman took the lead with seven tackles and one interception returned for four yards, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. Trevor Lane followed with six tackles and a sac.
The final score was 27-6.
The Varsity squad is now preparing for their next game against Seaquam on Saturday, Oct. 17, where they plan on continuing their winning streak. Their next home game will be Saturday Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. against Hugh Boyd.
