The Mission Golf and Country Club has a new champion.

Stu Dunaway took home the trophy from the final game of the annual Mission Match Play Championship on Sept. 6.

It was a close game, but Dunaway managed to take the lead spot from last year’s winner, Jim Shaw.

“Both of them are previous club champions a few times over, so they’re two of the better players,” said head pro, Mark Anderson. “It was an incredible match right down to the 19th hole, which is like overtime. It was pretty exciting with lots of people watching.”

The competition is a round-robin style match in which players are eliminated throughout the season, until just two players compete at the end of the summer for the champion title.
