There will be teams coming from as far away as Prince George for the Mission Minor Baseball Association (MMBA) Annual Ice Breaker tournament held at the Mission Rotary Sports Park this weekend.

The tournament has two divisions, Midget (15 and 16 year olds) and Mosquito (9 and 10 year olds).

Prince George Midget coach Jay Cook explains “Being up in Prince George, we have to travel regardless of where we want to play. It’s at least an eight-hour trip to either the interior, the Lower Mainland, or Alberta.

“We chose Mission because we recently switched from Little League to BC Minor, and since provincials this year are in Mission, we want to get down to get a feel for the fields/playing surface, as well as get some experience against our new-found competition.”

Mission will have a team in both divisions.

In addition to plenty of great games, the Mosquitoes will have a Bocce and Base Race competition and the Midgets will have an Around the Horn and Home Run competition. As well, the traditional MMBA Good Sportsmanship Award will be presented to the most sportsmanlike team.

Games start Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 1 p.m. and all day Saturday, with the semis and finals on Sunday.
