Not the time for anti-war play

Editor, The Record:

I am a student at Heritage Park secondary and I am appalled and embarrassed after seeing the Remembrance Day presentation at my school on Tuesday.

Remembrance Day is a time to remember those who have fought for our country and our freedom, but this was not the case at this presentation.

After listening to a Canadian Forces soldier talk about his recent tour in Afghanistan, the drama class did a performance which questioned the war in Afghanistan, the money spent on it, and why Canada was there.

This anti-war rhetoric is like a slap in the face to those who have given their lives for our freedom and to those still serving in our armed forces.

A lot of people, especially my age, take our freedom for granted and do not understand the importance of Remembrance Day.

To me, Remembrance Day is a time to remember those who have given their lives for our country and to thank those who are still serving to protect our freedoms.

I would like to say to the members of the Royal Canadian Legion and to all those currently serving with our Canadian Armed Forces, not all young people take you for granted and I thank you for all that you have done and are still doing.
