Advertising at movies should be limited

Why is it that when I go to see a movie, I also have to see advertising? I'm there for the entertainment, not to see/listen to BS. That makes me a captive audience and this should not be permitted.
Last night the advertising was about 10 minutes. A few years ago we took our two grandchildren to see a movie and that time the ads ran for nearly 20 minutes. The only thing that makes sense is seeing preview of upcoming movies.
